Are you struggling with thinning hair or a receding hairline? Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) in Roseville can restore natural hair growth. The treatment doesn’t involve stitches or a visible scar. At Sacramento Hair Doctor, we offer advanced FUE treatment in Roseville to help you achieve fuller, healthier hair with long-lasting results.
What is FUE Hair Transplant?
The hair transplantation procedure has greatly evolved since the early days with the help of follicular unit extraction (FUE) treatment in Sacramento. Donor hair is now extracted one follicle at a time rather than the FUT (follicular unit transplantation) method of removing a “strip” of the scalp.
Patients with FUE do not have a linear scar that needs to be covered with longer hair. No one will know that you have had hair transplant surgery.
How Dr. Prasad Does It Differently
Hair transplant techniques like FUE require advanced training and an extremely precise approach to provide accurate results. For these reasons, patients choose hair restoration specialist Dr. Prasad. She has over 15 years of experience in medical aesthetics and has consistently been at the forefront of the latest advances in cosmetic medicine.
During your private consultation, Dr. Prasad will examine your scalp to confirm whether FUE is the best path to address your hair loss. She will also carefully study your medical history and ask about your goals for the procedure. Please feel free to pose any questions you may have as well!
Am I a Good Candidate for FUE Treatment?
FUE hair transplant is ideal for men and women experiencing hair loss due to genetics, aging, or other factors. You may be a good candidate if you have mild to moderate hair loss.
FUE hair transplant is also excellent for those who want natural-looking results. The procedure is minimally invasive and has a quick recovery.
Candidates must have enough healthy hair in the donor area, typically at the back or sides of the scalp. If you’re unsure whether FUE is right for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Nalini Prasad to discuss your options.
How to Prepare for an FUE Session
If you are approved for FUE hair restoration, you’ll be given important preparation instructions to make sure you and your scalp are ready for your appointment. These will likely include the following:
- Stop taking blood thinners and anti-inflammatory medications 10 days prior.
- Don’t get a haircut before your appointment.
- Shampoo and conditioner are acceptable before and even the morning of your session, helping the scalp stay clean and sanitary. However, please do not use any sprays or gels for at least three days before your treatment.
- Abstain from alcoholic beverages starting three days in advance.
What to Expect During the Procedure
The FUE hair transfer method is considered to be a minimally invasive surgery. Usually, a less than one mm punch is used to “core” out the grafts, much like in lawn aeration. The core is gently lifted out of the scalp and kept in a specialized solution until it is transplanted. This leaves a less than one mm diameter incision site, which scabs up and heals well. Not all of the hair is extracted and as the surrounding hair grows out, the scabs are well camouflaged. In the long run, this procedure makes it easier to wear your hair short because there is no linear scar that has to be hidden.

Using microscopes, the follicles are prepared and counted per graft. The technicians prepare these before implantation. Only the number of follicles agreed to at the consultation is removed.
Following the extraction, Dr. Prasad and her team carefully implant the hair follicles into the area of thinning (where the transplant is to be done). This area is determined at the consultation and then reviewed at the pre-op appointment and once again prior to the surgery.
Results may vary.
FUE Hair Transplant Recovery and Aftercare
Recovery from an FUE hair transplant is relatively quick. Most patients can return to work and regular activities within a few days.
First 24 Hours
Mild swelling and redness are normal. Avoid touching or washing the scalp.
First Week
Small scabs form around the transplanted hair follicles. Follow post-procedure care instructions
to promote healing.
After Two Weeks
Most scabs fall off, and the scalp appears normal.
One Month
Transplanted hairs may begin shedding—this is a natural part of the process.
Following post-procedure guidelines will help you get the best results. Our team provides detailed aftercare instructions and is available to answer any questions.
FUE Hair Transplant Results and Timeline
While FUE results take time to develop, the wait is well worth it. Here’s a general timeline of the results.
Week One
Healing begins as the scalp recovers, creating a strong foundation for hair growth. Redness and swelling fade, and follicles start settling in.
Weeks Two to Four
Transplanted hairs shed, making way for new growth. This natural process paves the way for thicker, fuller hair.
Months Two to Three
New hair emerges, though initially fine. It gradually strengthens and becomes more noticeable.
Months Four to Six
Hair thickens, improving scalp coverage. Many patients see a fuller, healthier appearance.
Months Six to 12
Hair density increases, and texture improves. The transplanted hair blends seamlessly with existing strands.
12+ Months
The final results are thicker, healthier, and more natural-looking hair. Growth continues, providing long-lasting coverage and confidence.
“Dr. Prasad and her team have been fabulous”

The primary concern that prompted me to call Dr. Prasad was I had serious recession of my hairline – large “cul de sacs” as I called them, on the side and very thin receding hair along my forehead. My results are excellent! My cul de sacs are gone, I have a more normal looking hair line all across my forehead with sufficient thickness. I feel much more confident about how I look. What was standing in the way of me having a hair transplant in the first place was that I didn’t know such a procedure existed for women and I didn’t know where to get information. I had only seen photos of men who had cuts made in the back of their scalps. So glad I found Dr. Prasad and the FUE procedure. What I appreciated most about my overall experience was that I was treated so kindly by everyone in the office. Dr. Prasad really seems to know what she is doing. I would recommend the FUE procedure because it’s a great procedure with no scar left at the back of my head. Dr. Prasad and her team have been fabulous and very caring through the entire process. Thank you all so much!*

Frequently Asked Questions
An FUE procedure typically takes between four to eight hours, depending on the number of grafts needed. Larger sessions may require multiple treatments.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during treatment. Mild soreness or tightness may occur afterward but is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
It’s common for transplanted hair to shed within the first few weeks. This is a temporary phase, and new hair will begin growing in its place.
Before wearing a hat, you should wait a week to avoid disrupting the healing process. Your provider will give personalized advice based on your procedure.
Strenuous activities should be avoided for at least one week to prevent excessive sweating and irritation. Light activities can resume in two weeks.
